Lending Policy
The Churubusco Public Library has a full complement of items available for lending.
New Patrons
Residents of Smith Township in Whitley County, or Green Township in Noble County, may obtain a library card from the Churubusco Public Library at no cost. All new patrons must provide proof of address in the form of a driver's license, car registration, utility bill, or personal check. Noble County residents must also show a valid Noble County Library card. Children may get a card with the permission of their parents/guardians who have a valid card at the Churubusco Public Library.
Individuals who live outside of our service area may also obtain a library card by purchasing a membership for $35 annually, or by purchasing a PLAC (Public Library Access Card) from their home library. Students who live outside of our service area, but who attend school at Smith-Green Community Schools, may obtain a library card. Parents must give permission and show proof of attendance as well as proof of address.
Resident cards are good for three years; memberships are good for one year. The fee for replacing lost or destroyed cards is $1 per card.
- Books, magazines, and audio books may be checked out for 2 weeks, and have a 7 day grace period. After seven days, a 25¢/day fine will be incurred on each item
- Videos, DVDs, and certain reference items may be checked out for 3 days, with no grace period. A $1.00/day fine will be incurred on each item
- Book Buddies and Lawn Games may be checked out for two weeks, but do not have a grace period, and have a $1.00/day fine
- Laptops and Hotspots may be checked out for one week and do not have a grace period. Internet service will be turned off on the Hotspots if overdue. Laptops have a $10.00/day fine
- There is no cap on the amount of fines accrued. Letters will be sent on overdue items at a cost of $1.00 plus postage
- There is a limit of 20 items checked out at a time, and a limit on videos/DVDs
- Individuals age 5-11 can check out 1 video/DVD at a time
- Individuals age 12-15 can check out 2 videos/DVDs at a time
- Individuals ages 16+ can check out 3 videos/DVDs at a time
- Books, magazines, and audio books may be renewed up to three times
- Items may be renewed by bringing them in to the library, calling, emailing, or using the online catalog (see Contact for phone number and email address)
- Laptops and Hotspots may be renewed once and may not be returned in the outdoor book drop
- Videos, DVDs, and Book Buddies, or materials on hold for another patron, may not be renewed
- You must have your library card with you each time you use the library
